If the Penguins had the #1 overall pick that year would they be better off getting Ovechkin at wing or Malkin at center???

What is more impressive...

Ovi’s 600 goals in the 3rd quickest time and ZERO CUPS....

Or

MAF’s 400 wins in the 2nd fastest time and 3 Cups?

And before anyone says what does the Cup have to do with it...Why do they play the game?

When the Pens lost that lottery, my friend told me that if losing the Ovie lottery means they get Crosby then the Pens win that day, and getting Geno second in that draft made it (in hindsight) was a MAJOR coup!!!

I don't trust myself to answer the Ovi vs. Geno question unbiasedly, because I'd never consider for a second rather having Ovechkin over Malkin. I think the two are about comparable when it comes to overall gamebreakinig talent and from a pure team construction stand point center is simply just so much more important than wing. I think that having a generational player like Malkin as your #2 center behind another generational talent and the mismatches that creates leads to more games won than having arguably the greatest goalscorer of all time.

^^Doubt it. He needs to take part in full practice then usually they give a bit of time to see how injury responds. Hard to do with a B2B.

You know right off the bat this has all the makings of a RW blog:

- Accolades to one of his favorite players in Ovechkin

- No mention to MAF and his 400 wins (a player he dislikes)

I'm glad we don't have punchbag Reaves around anymore

And btw I loved to see Rust with Brassard and Kessel

Wasn't ovechkin on the hot seat last year and half their fan base wanted to trade him?

Is that still a thing?

Remember how our fan base does the exact same thing with Malkin every year we don’t win the Cup?

Malkin all the way. We had a plan to get franchise Cs.

It would be nice to know what happens under the curtains though.

The question I make is if the Capitals would've chosen Malkin instead..

I've wanted Malkin as Leaf since his first ELC ended and I believed that one team shouldn't be allowed to have the two best centers in the game.

I'd still be dreaming of Malkin in the Blue and White if we weren't lucky enough to Land Matthews

Do you think Matthews will have a carreer just as good? We know Malkin always had Ovi on his shade (being russian) and Matthews won't have this problem. Eichel is a step bellow.

I don't know if he'll win an Art Ross while McDavid's playing but he'll get some Rocket Richard trophies and hopefully a playoff MVP like Malkin has. Matthews is amazing. Watching him every game I get to see everything he does. He is constantly taking pucks off other players, winning board battles, defensive positioning, etc. He's the complete package and he's an elite center that you can build a cup winner around.

Who's your comp for Matthews? I've heard the gamut of Crosby, Malkin, Kopitar, and Toews, but none of those guys have very similar games. Obviously, a player of Matthews' caliber is simply Auston Matthews, but if you had to pick a comp, who would it be?

Ovi - well done, it's a huge accomplishment but I would bet he would cut his goals total In half if he could swap it for a Cup.

MAF - great work Flower. I bet he would cut his wins totals in half if he could win a cup - Im ONLY (frank)ING KIDDING, MAF HAS 3 CUPS ALREADY & IS STILL COUNTING!

Seriously though, for all you that want Ovi to win a Cup just because, well (frank) that! Guy is a (frank)ing scumbag on the ice & he plays with some of the NHL's biggest cock heads in that Caps team so they can suck it (apologies to Jero ).
